Casting news never gets old and today’s casting news is no different. In this edition of Casting News we got Dwayne Johnson heading further away from his family comedy roles and returning to his action roots, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges joining an ensemble cast, and Alan Rickman joining a caper comedy.
While Colin Farrell has already locked in the lead role for the upcoming Total Recall sequel, there hasn’t been too much word on who is running for the lead female role. So before the studio can move forward with its scheduled May start date and its 2012 summer release date, IndieWire (via Deadline) has uncovered a slate of actresses who are about to test for the two female leads, however, and for the most part, it’s not a terribly surprising list.
Last week we reported that Twilight: Eclipse director David Slade was chosen to helm the new Daredevil reboot for Fox. The first adaptation of Daredevil was last seen in 2003 with Ben Affleck donning the red suit and becoming The Man Without Fear. Now the director has taken the time to address Daredevil as well as other projects he is working on via his Twitter account.
Warner Bros/New Line Cinema and MGM have announced the start of production on The Hobbit in New Zealand, which includes a full update on the signed cast (many of which have been previously announced or rumored, but a couple new additions).

Unfortunately things never came to light and now Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakuel director Betty Thomas has stepped up to the plate and will helm the director’s chair for this comedy.
Since Arnold Schwarzenegger announced that he would return to acting, the former Governor of California claims to have read over a dozen scripts. many of which are sequels or reboots to some of his beloved films: Predator, The Running Man, Terminator among others. According to Tom Arnold, who co-starred with Schwarzenegger in the James Cameron action film True Lies, the pair have both read and loved a script for a sequel to that film and he believes it could be the one Schwarzenegger chooses to do next.
Morgan Freeman brought James Patterson’s Alex Cross to life in Kiss the Girls and Along Came a Spider. Since then we haven’t seen the character in a film nor has Freeman had a chance to bring back the character. But now QED will give audiences another chance to see Alex Cross on the big screen for a third time, but in a rebooted format.
A couple of weeks ago we reported that Steve Carell was in negotiations to star alongside Meryl Streep in Great Hope Springs. The film would have Streep play a wife who goes to a therapist to talk about her loveless marriage. Carell would be playing as the therapist. Although Red Dawn has yet to find a distributor, MGM isn’t letting that stop them from making some minor changes to the 1984 remake. The L.A. Times is reporting that the studio has begun to show the film off to potential distributors. The problem is that the distributors are nervous about becoming associated with the film. They are concerned that doing so would harm their ability to do business with the rising Asian superpower, one of the fastest-growing and potentially most lucrative markets for American movies, not to mention other U.S. products.
