The Marvel Cinematic Universe is by far the most exciting and extraordinary superhero film franchise ever, and it just keeps getting better. Producer Kevin Feige recently sat with EW (via The Playlist) to talk about upcoming movies set in the aforementioned universe, such as James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy,
David Gordon Green's productivity amazes me. Not only is he promoting Prince Avalanche while wrapping up production on Joe (starring Nicolas Cage), but he's also begun planning his newest film Manglehorn, and he wants Academy Award-winning actor and industry legend Al Pacino as the lead. The film would tell the story of an ex-con living in anonymity while nursing his sick cat and slowly falling into a dull routine, but his tranquility is eventually threatened when he's unmasked as a man with a dark past.
It's been said that Samuel L. Jackson wants to portray Mace Windu once again (although we sincerely beg him not to). We don't even know what Michael Arndt and J.J. Abrams' story treatment will be like. What characters he plans to include, when the story will be set and who the main villain will be in Star Wars: Episode VII are all unanswered enigmas. Nevertheless, producer Kathleen Kennedy recently spoke to ScreenSlam (via The Playlist) about the much-hyped film, and said:
When The Avengers came out, fans all over the world wept with joy when Thanos, the Mad Titan, was revealed to be the true puppeteer behind Loki's actions in the post-credits scene. However, it looks like those fans will have to wait a little while longer to see Thanos become the main villain in a Marvel Cinematic Universe film.
Just letting you know -- if you haven't seen The Avengers, don't read on. If you don't want to know anything about Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. until it starts airing on ABC, don't read on. In fact, if you have a ZERO SPOILER POLICY, you might want to stop reading right about now. You have been warned.
Johnny Depp has recently entered talks to star in the Rob Marshall-directed adaptation of Into the Woods. "What's Into the Woods?" you may ask. Well, it turns out it's a musical that tells the story of The Baker and his wife, who are cursed with the inability to have children. In their journey, they cross paths with other fairy-tale characters such as Cinderella and Rapunzel. While it sounds corny and too much like Shrek in a couple of ways, it's said to be dark and grim.
G.I. Joe: Retaliation hasn't been in theatres for too long but it has quickly turned a profit, despite its notoriously low-key cast (with the exception of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Bruce Willis), therefore, it has been reported that Paramount is planning a G.I. Joe 3.
I can't even imagine how busy Guillermo Del Toro must be. Whether or not he's actually working on something is up for debate, but it has been widely reported that he has several projects in line, such as Crimson Peak, the much anticipated Justice League Dark (which has been called Heaven Sent and Dark Universe as well), and fans simply don't want give up on him directing the final entry in the Hellboy franchise. Despite speculation that Del Toro is all booked up for the next decade or so, the Mexican filmmaker is working with HBO on an adaptation of the manga Monster, which he will write with Steve Thompson (Sherlock) and direct the pilot episode of.
