You know what movie kicks ass? Dredd. No, not that Stallone film from the ‘90s (although it might be worth watching after a few beers), I’m talking about the Karl Urban version from 2012. Everything about it just worked. The action, visual style and simple plot. Even the trailer's a real banger. And now that I remember, the 3D was really cool as well, particularly during the slo-mo scenes.
Not even Disney is immune to flops, it seems, as according to recent reports, The Call of the Wild is set to lose the Mouse House roughly $50 million. With a budget of $125 million, the movie needed to at least double that figure to break even and through two weeks of release, the Harrison Ford film has earned only $79.2 million.
Remember in 2016 when the R-rated Deadpool became a phenomenon on its way to more than $800 million in worldwide box office receipts? We didn’t quite know it at the time, but that movie sort of broke the seal in establishing the potential success of an adult oriented superhero pic.
Universal and Blumhouse Productions are releasing a new iteration of The Invisible Man this weekend and producer Jason Blum is already expressing interest in reviving other monsters in the Universal catalog.
Despite dying at the end of Avengers: Endgame, Thanos is still as popular as ever. There’s even discussions at Marvel about resurrecting the Mad Titan for future MCU movies. He truly is inevitable.
At 72-years-old, Robert Englund is probably getting too old to still be playing his most iconic role, Freddy Krueger, in A Nightmare on Elm Street. In fact, the last time he put on the claws and burn makeup (save for a cameo appearance on The Goldbergs in 2018), it was for Freddie vs. Jason way back in 2003. But there is one other way he could still play the character.
Creed 3 is officially moving forward. The spin-off series of the Rocky franchise starring Michael B. Jordan is two movies in and there’s no indication of anyone at the studio throwing in the towel (Sorry).
