Steven Spielberg and Harrison Ford have been trying to get Indiana Jones 5 going for a while now. It was originally set for release in May of this year, but Spielberg, Disney and Lucasfilm pushed it back so that he could remake West Side Story.
This weekend sees the release of Sonic The Hedgehog and Paramount is surely hoping they have a hit on their hands. 2019 didn't end well for the studio after Terminator: Dark Fate and Gemini Man failed to connect with audiences despite carrying hefty budgets ($185 million and $138 million, respectively) and they really need a big winner.
It seems like Disney and Lucasfilm want a do-over on Solo: A Star Wars Story. And really, you can't blame them, as the lowest grossing Star Wars movie to date saw two directors exit, a shaky performance from star Alden Ehrenreich and major story changes that resulted in the plot being a bit of a mess.
Hollywood is always looking to remake popular foreign films. Hell, HBO is already developing an American version of Parasite and eyeing Mark Ruffalo to star. Another international property that’s ripe for an American reboot though is The Raid. Sure, you could argue that Dredd is basically the same thing, but I digress.
The 92nd Academy Awards will forever be remembered as the night Parasite made history by becoming the first international film to win Best Picture. It’s also one of the rare Oscars where the Academy actually got it right with most of the winners. Except for Renee Zellweger. I’m still baffled by that one.
Did you know that John Krasinksi was close to becoming Captain America? He actually auditioned for the role and went so far as to put the suit on. Or at least, most of the suit. While appearing on The Ellen Show, The Office star spoke about the process and how a fellow actor’s physique made him feel insecure and intimidated.
Christopher McQuarrie has become Tom Cruise’s muse. The director/actor partnership has been quite fruitful ever since Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol when McQuarrie helped rewrite the script. Following that, he worked with Cruise on Edge of Tomorrow, Jack Reacher, The Mummy and the upcoming Top Gun: Maverick, among others.
Birds of Prey has officially hit theaters and audiences appear to be loving the Suicide Squad spinoff. Having just seen the movie myself, I can attest to it being a fun, self-referential comic book film in the vein of something like Deadpool. And Margot Robbie was born to play this character. In fact, she might have already locked up the award for all time best female comic book movie performance.
