Charlize Theron Is Heading To The Coldest City For Female-Led Action Film

While audiences have been concentrating on arguing for a Black Widow movie, Academy Award winner Charlize Theron has been quietly putting together the next best thing – a female-led Cold War action movie, based on the graphic novel The Coldest City, by British writer Antony Johnston and artist Sam Hart. While Theron is set to star and produce, the project has taken on a whole new dimension with the announcement of David Leitch and Chad Stahelski as directors – bringing with them their impressive John Wick reputation. Focus Features has now snapped up the distribution rights ahead of the Cannes Film Festival.

Series Renewals For Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D And Agent Carter

ABC has finally confirmed series renewals for Marvel shows Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D and Agent Carter, but the announcement comes as something of a mixed bag. Few were surprised at the commitment to a third season of Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D – particularly given that recent episodes have begun to lay the foundation for Marvel’s planned Inhumans movie, currently due to arrive in 2019. Audiences were less sure of a return for Agent Carter, although that fledgling show attracted a not insignificant number of viewers, and built itself a very loyal fan base in a short space of time.

Lana and Andy Wachowski are about to branch out into a new medium, and anticipation is high as audiences ponder whether their particular brand of storytelling might fare better on the streaming platform Netflix than in cinemas. Since the mixed reactions to 2012’s Cloud Atlas, and the undeniable disappointment of the recent Jupiter Ascending, the heady days of The Matrix brilliance seem increasingly to be a fading memory. Paramount Moves Monster Trucks To March 2016

When studios start shuffling release dates, it can be a portent of doom. Such moves are often accompanied with whispers about production problems, or executive disappointment with the finished product itself. Paramount’s sudden adjustment to the roll-out of its live action-computer animation hybrid Monster Trucks suggests the opposite, however. Of all the months to shift it to, the studio has opted to push it back to March 2016 – a month that many would give a wide berth, given that the cinematic juggernaut Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice will be pulling into theatres at that time. Not so for Monster Trucks, which will now arrive a week before that superhero smack-down.

HBO Places Series Order For David Fincher’s Video Synchronicity

Academy Award nominated filmmaker David Fincher is renowned for many things – tense drama, intriguing plot twists, and even the odd Grammy-winning music video – but comedy has, so far, not been one of his signature moves. This is about to change, however, as HBO have handed a series order to Fincher, for his 1980s-set music video comedy series - currently known as Video Synchronicity.
