John Goodman To Star In New Thriller Valencia For Bad Robot

Huge special effects movies are all well and good, but sometimes, to make an effective film, all you need is two people in a room – particularly when one of those people is John Goodman. That’s the way it is shaping up for Valencia – an upcoming thriller directed by Dan Trachtenberg (BlackBoxTV), for the low-budget specialising Insurge division of Paramount Pictures, and Bad Robot.

Jon Hamm Considering Richard Linklater’s The Incredible Mr. Limpet

You would be forgiven for not instantly recognising the name The Incredible Mr Limpet. It comes from a novel – ‘Mr Limpet’ – written by Theodore Pratt in 1942, about shy bookkeeper Henry Limpet falling off a pier and turning into a fish. Unfazed, he embarks on a life assisting the US Navy in locating Nazi U-boats during World War II. The novel was adapted into a film in 1964, with Don Knotts in the title role, Arthur Lubin as director, and the story presented in a mix of live-action and animation. Now, phenomenal filmmaker Richard Linklater is bringing Limpet back to the big screen, and it all sounds very exciting.

New Trailer For War Story Starring Catherine Keener

One of the greatest cinematic travesties of 2013 was the ‘blink and you’ll miss her’ casting of Academy Award nominee Catherine Keener (Capote) in Captain Phillips. Don’t get me wrong – it’s an exceptional movie – but you don’t put Catherine Keener in your film, just to relegate her to one speaking scene, and an action shot of her running down some stairs. It’s a shameful waste of one of our most talented actresses. But, fret not. Almost by way of compensation, we have a trailer for War Story, in which Keener seems to own the screen in an honest-to-goodness leading role.

As a general rule, I’m a big believer in cinema moving forward. It's vital for an artform to constantly renew and reinvigorate itself, in order to remain interesting and avoid stagnation. That’s why bold and visionary filmmakers are so important. To date, the writer and director of Reach Me – John Herzfeld – has been neither of those things (2 Days In The Valley, anyone?), but the new trailer for his latest movie suggests a move in a new, more intriguing direction.

Meet Detective Pretty Boy In New Featurette For The Flash

While we continue to get excited about the prospect of the pilot episode of The Flash getting its first screening at the San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday July 26, the CW continue to whet our appetites with snippets and featurettes. Today’s offering centres around the supporting character of Detective Eddie Thawne, played by Rick Cosnett (The Vampire Diaries). Nicknamed Detective Pretty Boy – for reasons that are apparently intended to be obvious – he is an overly confident cop with a notable sense of entitlement and a sizeable ego, working alongside lead character Barry Allen (Grant Gustin).

James Patterson’s Zoo Goes Straight To Series With CBS

When best-selling author James Patterson published his novel Zoo with Michael Ledwidge in 2012, they instantly had another hit on their hands. With 4 million copies selling worldwide, the rights were quickly snapped up by producer Cathy Konrad (Girl, Interrupted), with a view to creating a feature film. Those plans have now evolved, and Zoo will become a TV series for CBS.

Gotham And The Flash Will Premiere At Comic-Con

The San Diego Comic-Con is always a huge event, and increasingly, fans and attendees have been rewarded for their loyalty with exclusive previews and announcements that practically tear the roof off the now famous Hall H. In past years, Marvel has caused epic stirs with its superhero franchises and, last year, Zack Snyder made headlines with the choreographed reveal of the Superman/Batman combined logo - heralding the production of Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice. So, how do DC Entertainment and Warner Bros Television intend to top that? By staging the premieres of two of their most highly anticipated titles, of course. Screening during a three-hour presentation on Saturday July 26, at the San Diego Comic-Con, will be Gotham and The Flash.
