Sylvester Stallone's retro action franchise The Expendables has seemingly won fans over, what with the recent success of the second film in the series, The Expendables 2, and a further entry, The Expendables 3: More Expendabler in the works. And though the first films in the franchise have had their fare share of kung-fu action with Jet Li in the midst of things, Stallone has often spoken about getting China's most famous film star involved: Jackie Chan.
Due to the untimely departure of actor Michael Clarke Duncan, who died earlier this year from a heart attack, Dennis Haysbert signed on the replace him for Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller's long-awaited sequel Sin City: A Dame To Kill For, given that both actors exude a similar presence and are both potentially terrifying. Speaking out on his decision to step in for Duncan, Haysbert (who you might know from 24 - he played the President) had this to say:
Despite middling reviews and numerous complaints about Peter Jackson's decision to shoot in 48FPS, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey emerged triumphant at the box office over the weekend, proving that people don't care what the critics have to say, they just want to see Gollum saying things again. The film brought in a whopping $84.8 million in its three-day opening in the US, making it the biggest December opening ever. In comparison, Rise of the Guardians, which came in 2nd place, pulled in just $7.4 million.
This year has had its fair share of great blockbusters, comedies, Oscar-baiters and what feels like a ton of politically-minded efforts dealing with a whole host of controversial subjects, including slavery, terrorism and economic meltdown. Some of these pictures will be remembered as some of the best films of the year - a result of their fine direction and expertly-written screenplays. But sometimes it's a single quote that sticks with you long after the movie's over - many of which can be used to define a film in a single line of dialogue. Before they put their heads together for the upcoming Marvel flick Iron Man 3, Robert Downey Jr. and Shane Black got acquainted with the little-known noir masterpiece Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang. So what kind of relationship do actor/director share?
The world's obsession with hip "dark" storylines has spawned a somewhat uncountable number of sequels which look to embrace concepts that have audiences saying things like, "Oh, yeah, this one's much darker," a direction that Tron 3 would also like to veer into should it find itself in movie theatres at some point soon - because that's what you want, isn't it?
"Yeah, we might as well, what else is there to do a show about?" presumably went the words from a TV executive over at ABC, who have decided to green-light an upcoming show based around the life of formerly mushroom-headed pop sensation Justin Bieber, because why not? The show, set to be written by former writers of HBO's Entourage, will be set around a fictional character who is Justin Bieber, though he'll be granted a new, different name whilst he deals with the same kind of tribulations trying to get into the music biz that the real Justin Bieber had to deal with, only fictional this time.
Having used up the last possible something something Die Hard title to come up with A Good Day To Die Hard, the fifth installment in the John McClane vs. terrorist franchise is set for a release next year, and a new poster has unveiled to let you know that this is a father son story, albeit one in which father and son kill Russians instead of, like, going fishing or something.
David Cronenberg is one of cinema's great auteurs, a twisted director obsessed with sex, violence and body mutilation and getting away with it, and whose canon of films includes classics such as The Fly, A History Of Violence, Crash and the recently underrated Cosmopolis, which starred the world's favourite broody vampire Robert Pattison. Recently Cronenberg opened up on some of this doom projects, however, granting us a delicious insight into a couple of movies that didn't make it into production: Eastern Promises 2 & a remake of The Fly.
It's finally here!
