The Equalizer 3 may be the final chapter for Robert McCall, or at least that’s what Denzel Washington has said when it comes to his future playing the lead role in this film franchise.
Washington revealed that his time in The Equalizer film franchise has come to an end. According to ET, he knew that there would be more Equalizer films in the future. But when it comes to the chances of him returning to the franchise to reprise the role, he claims that he’s done. The actor also revealed that he didn’t expect the film to become a franchise and thought it would be just one or two titles.
“This is the end for me. It may not be the end, they may do another one, but it’s the end for me. Never say never, but you never know…
“It was just [the] same conversation we had [for] one and two. We never thought about it as a franchise, it’s a film on its own. It’s a part of a franchise, but it’s a film on its own. So we dealt with it that way. That’s what we talked about. Just this film, we don’t talk about one and two. [They’re] done.”
In 2018, The Equalizer 3 was announced by the film’s director, Antonie Fuqua, who also announced that the third installment would take place in an international setting. Previews for the upcoming vigilante action film were released back in Oct. 2022 by Sony Pictures, when the Italian production for the film began. Alongside Washington, Dakota Fanning, David Denman, Sonia Ben Ammar, and Remo Girone will star in the film.
The Equalizer 3 will be released in theaters on Sept. 1, 2023.
