‘Enormously shallow’: Royal biographer claims Meghan Markle is trying to be the next Beyoncé

Royal biographer Tina Brown has sharply criticized Meghan Markle’s recent wave of business projects, calling the Duchess of Sussex’s approach “extremely shallow” and motivated by a strong desire for attention.

Brown made these comments during a recent appearance on “Mixed Signals” episode, found by the NY Post. She focused on Markle’s wide-ranging business efforts, including her Netflix cooking show, podcast, lifestyle brand, and online store. The biographer claims that Markle’s quick rollout of these projects shows a lack of clear direction and an inability to fully commit to any single idea.

Brown said, “Do it really well, and then do something else… She is so ADD; she just never stops making announcements and never really follows through…. It’s like, ‘I’m gonna do a cooking show! Nah — I’m going to be a podcaster. And hello, hello, I’ve got a beauty line!’”

Brown’s criticism centers on what she sees as Markle’s attempt to quickly copy the success of well-known figures like Beyoncé and Michelle Obama. While Brown recognizes Markle’s ambition, she points out that, unlike these established stars, Markle has not put in the years of hard work or built the strong foundations that support their careers.

Brown believes this is the main reason for Markle’s perceived failures. The biographer suggests that Markle’s business strategy seems more like a scattered, impulsive chase for fame rather than a carefully planned and executed career path.

Markle’s recent projects have received mixed reactions. Her lifestyle brand, As Ever, sold out its first product line quickly, creating excitement around its launch. However, her podcast, Confessions of a Female Founder, and her Netflix cooking show, With Love, Meghan, have mostly gotten negative reviews. Critics have called the podcast empty and self-praising, saying it lacks depth and does not deliver the meaningful insights it promised.

Similarly, the cooking show has been criticized as self-centered and overly focused on Markle, with several major publications calling it a vanity project with little real appeal. Beyond the criticism of her projects, Brown also comments on Markle’s general approach to business and working with others. Brown describes Markle as someone who refuses to take advice, often ignoring guidance from those around her.

As reported by Page Six, she claims this has led to Markle pushing away her advisors, with many who once offered help now tired of her apparent unwillingness to listen. This portrayal of Markle as “unadvisable” suggests a pattern of behavior that, in Brown’s view, not only hurts Markle’s own success but also negatively affects those closest to her, including her husband, Prince Harry.

The timing of Markle’s business launches also plays a part in Brown’s critique. The fact that her cooking show, podcast, and lifestyle brand all appeared in a short span of time suggests a rushed and disorganized strategy with no clear long-term plan. Brown argues that this lack of careful planning weakens any chance of lasting success, leaving Markle with a series of unfinished projects instead of a few well-developed ones.
