‘False and completely unsubstantiated’: Tenoch Huerta responds to sexual assault allegations

The actor has released a statement with his side of the story.

Just as quickly as the allegations came to light over the weekend, Marvel Cinematic Universe star Tenoch Huerta has issued a response to the sexual assault accusations made against him.

The actor, who debuted in last year’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever with a well-received turn as the villainous Namor, released a statement to Variety where he vehemently denied the claims made by musician María Elena Ríos, wherein he dubbed them “false and completely unsubstantiated.”

“I cannot let it go unchallenged any longer. About a year ago, I dated Elena for several months. It was entirely consensual at all times, as countless others can attest. And throughout it was a loving, warm and mutually supportive relationship. After it ended, however, Elena began to misrepresent our interactions both privately and in front of groups of mutual friends.”

Huerta did mention that he will be working to “improve himself,” but not before once more strenuously denying that any untoward conduct had occurred on his part, revealing his legal team have been aware of the matter for months.

“As a result, a few months ago, I engaged a legal team to commence the appropriate actions to protect my reputation and refute these irresponsible and false accusations that can cause great prejudice and damage. Although I am by no means perfect, I know that these allegations are simply untrue. And while I will always work to improve myself, I need to contest claims that are both false and offensive.”

The Narcos: Mexico alum then thanked his family and those close to him for their support, although this will no doubt be far from the end of the matter.

“I am deeply grateful to my family and the people who have supported me and greatly appreciate everyone who is willing to look at the facts and reflect before rushing to an untrue and unjust conclusion.”

There are always two sides to every story, but now that both parties have laid their cards on the table, the pressing issue now is to find where the truth lies.
