George Takei calls for 2023 to be ‘the year of accountability’ following Donald Trump indictment vote

George Takei celebrated Trump's indictment on social media.

Star Trek star George Takei took to social media to celebrate after it was announced that a grand jury voted to indict former president Donald Trump. The actor wants 2023 to be known as “the year of accountability” and hopes that this moment in US history will be remembered.

Takei released a series of tweets, celebrating the recent decision. At the same time, he thanked law enforcement for arresting those who took part in the January 6 capitol riot in 2021. He hopes that everything that happened recently would be a reminder that anti-government protests from MAGA supporters will not be tolerated.

The actor’s tweets were met with mixed reactions. Some celebrated with him, while others believe that other politicians like Joe Biden should “also be held accountable.”

On March 30, 2023, a Manhattan-based grand jury voted to have Trump indicted over allegations that he paid hush money to adult star Stormy Daniels during the US election. Trump denied the allegations and released a statement on Truth Social, saying that this “witch hunt” was done by “the Radical Left Democrats.” Trump’s indictment doesn’t mean that he’s immediately arrested. However, there were calls to have the former president surrender himself to the Manhattan DA.

Takei has been vocal about his political stance for quite some time, from sharing satirical articles poking fun at Fox News to showing support for stronger gun laws. He’s also not the only actor that commented on the recent events. Horror author Stephen King recently tweeted a message to Republicans, saying that Trump “betrayed their trust” and that he did this to himself.

In preparation for Friday’s hearing, New York Police Department has increased security and prepared crowd control measures due to Trump’s call for protests, as well as the amount of media outlets covering the indictment hearing.
