Harvey Weinstein sentenced to 16 years for rape and sexual assault

Harvey Weinstein has been sentenced in Los Angeles after being found guilty of rape and sexual assault.

Disgraced Hollywood producer, Harvey Weinstein, has been sentenced to 16 years in prison after being found guilty of rape and sexual assault.

Weinstein was charged with sexual abuse by four women, but was ultimately found guilty in just one case. He was sentenced to eight years for “oral copulation,” six years for “forcible penetration by a foreign object,” and two years for rape. They will be served consecutively, thus adding up to the 16 year sentence.

Weinstein is already serving a 23-year prison sentence for rape. That case and conviction occurred in New York, whereas this case is based is Los Angeles. An appeal will be heard in the New York case.

Weinstein had pled not guilty and, despite the convictions, has stated that he will continue his legal fight. Several witnesses testified during this trail, including Jennifer Siegel Newsom — wife of California governor Gavin Newsom — who tearfully testified on the stand that Weinstein had raped her.

A representative for Weinstein, Juda Englemayer, told TMZ, “It’s a cruel sentence, given his age, his health and conditions of his conviction in Los Angeles, when the sole charge was a from a person who lied, with the judge and prosecutor well aware of it and permitting it, about critical elements of her own claim.”

Juda went on to call it “A sad day,” and claims that Weinstein is simply “caught on the wrong side of cancel culture while hopelessly and voicelessly proclaiming innocence.”

Harvey Weinstein is 70 years old and will thus likely die in prison.
