‘I myself am a boomer! I’m, like, horrible!’: Arnold Schwarzenegger takes a typically self-deprecating approach to current events

Technically, he's 100 percent correct.

There are very few A-listers in Hollywood as aware of their reputation as Arnold Schwarzenegger, with that signature self-deprecating streak playing a huge part in securing his legacy and longevity as one of the biggest names in the business.

One of the most remarkable life stories of the modern age, it takes a whole lot of determination to go from an Austrian bodybuilder with an impenetrable accent to the biggest movie star on the planet, never mind his forays into politics and the various other successes that have defined his career.

Now in his mid-70s, Schwarzenegger shows no signs of taking it easy, with Netflix series FUBAR debuting next week. Even away from the camera, he’s continuing his campaigning to try and slow down climate change, even if he revealed to the BBC‘s Laura Kuenssberg that he knows he’s not exactly in the right demographic to push the agenda to his peers.

“I myself am a boomer! I’m, like, horrible! I don’t want to make investments that were really cool 50 years ago – you would lose your shirt today if you made those investments. We have to change with the technology, it’s as simple as that. It’s the same with the environmental movement, we have to get out of the mode of stopping every project from being built. We’ve got to go and build, build, build all these green projects.”

The “okay, boomer” meme has been one of the most popular among the youths for quite some time, but hearing Schwarzenegger’s opinions on what to do in order to slow down the rampant heating of the planet, it’s going to be used unironically for once. He might be an icon of mowing down henchmen with reckless abandon, but he’s always kept one eye on the future, too.
