‘I’ll see it when I see it’: Brie Larson bristles after being questioned on judging Johnny Depp’s comeback movie

An embattled reaction, to say the least.

Even though he’s still persona non grata in Hollywood, Johnny Depp‘s comeback movie Jeanne du Barry has nonetheless been selected as the opening movie of this year’s Cannes Film Festival, where Marvel Cinematic Universe and Fast X star Brie Larson will be serving as one of the jurors on the celebrity advisory panel.

As always, the annual event is an eclectic mix both in terms of the titles selected for competition and the people tasked with judging them, but Larson took exception to a reporter questioning her on whether or not she’s going to be making a point of seeing the ex-Pirates of the Caribbean headliner’s latest.

When a journalist made a point of noting that Larson was an “outspoken advocate for Time’s Up” and then directed the line of inquiry towards Depp’s legal trials that saw him accused of domestic abuse, the Academy Award winner took a dismissive stance that bordered on the bristling.

“You’re asking me that? Um, I ‘m sorry, I don’t understand the correlation of why me specifically. I’ll see it when I see it.”

Based on that answer, don’t expect The Marvels‘ leading lady to be making a point of catching Jeanne du Barry, then. The French-language historical drama marks Depp’s first major role in years, but it’ll be interesting to see how critics treat the end result, especially when he’s only reported to have somewhere between 10 and 15 minutes of screentime.
