Is Markiplier in the ‘FNAF’ movie? The rumors and speculation, explained

Well, he didn't say no.

Although live-action adaptations of video games might have left a bad taste in several mouths over the years, HBO’s The Last of Us allowed for some refreshing optimism to swarm the internet as it became HBO’s second-biggest opening since 2010’s The Walking Dead. From that moment forth, faith has been restored in live-action, which hasn’t performed so wonderfully in the past, i.e. Tomb Raider and Uncharted.

Additionally, The Super Mario Bros. Movie became the highest-grossing video game adaptation of all time as well as the highest-grossing movie of 2023 thus far. It seems there’s a light at the end of the tunnel for live-action, right in time for Five Nights at Freddy’s… cue trailer.

Blumhouse, the company behind Insidious and the Halloween reboot trilogy, will be in charge of bringing Five Nights at Freddy’s to the big screen. The story follows Mike Schmidt — played by Josh Hutcherson — who’s struggling to make ends meet and takes a job as a security guard for Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria. During his first night on the job, he realizes that the animatronics are alive, sentient, and out to get him. Mike must survive his first week at the restaurant whilst being hunted by the animatronics that inhabit it.

After he rose to popularity for streaming Five Nights at Freddy’s — among other titles like Amnesia and Outlast — fans of the franchise are wondering if YouTuber, social media personality, and entrepreneur Markiplier will be making an appearance.

When Five Nights at Freddy’s released in 2014, this was around the same time that Markiplier rose to prominence. He — along with other gaming YouTubers and streamers — would record themselves playing the game and upload their reactions as interactive playthroughs.

Markiplier currently has over 34 million subscribers and counting, plus he’s become well-known for his comedy sketches and original content, such as “A Date With Markiplier” and “A Heist With Markiplier.”

In a March 2023 interview with Variety, Mark touched on the subject briefly, but neglected to give a straight answer.

“I can’t say anything particular about that,” he told the outlet. “There was a lot of scheduling conflict and I can’t say anything.”

The scheduling conflict in question could be referring to Mark’s upcoming movie — Iron Lung — based on the horror game of the same name by David Szymanski. The cast will include Caroline Kaplan, Jacksepticeye, and David Szymanski himself.

Markiplier hasn’t exactly confirmed or denied any involvement in the movie, so we’ll have to wait until October to know for sure.
