Michael Jackson’s close friend, Emmy-winning producer Geoffrey Mark, just shared a heartbreaking look into the life of the King of Pop. Mark shared that Jackson had once disclosed that he was a victim of sexual abuse during his own childhood. Per the NY Post, these secrets were shared during private parties held at the home of mutual friend and dermatologist Dr. Arnold Klein.
According to Mark, Jackson did not frame his early experiences as abuse or criminal behavior. Instead, the singer appeared to have been deeply conditioned to view the actions of his abuser as a normal part of his upbringing. When discussing the topic, Mark noted that Jackson described his experience as, “It was playtime.”
This perspective suggests a profound level of grooming that left the star unable to identify his own victimization. Mark explained that Jackson did not use terms like abuse because it never crossed his mind that what he experienced was wrong. The producer observed that when he shared his own history of childhood trauma with Jackson, the singer responded with confusion, as if he could not understand why such experiences would be considered upsetting.
You have to wonder why Mark has come forward now
This early conditioning created a heavy emotional load for the artist throughout his adult life. Mark suggests that the superstar was not acting out of malice, but rather from a place of being emotionally stunted.
In his view, Jackson likely attempted to recreate the environment he knew as a child, perhaps believing he was entertaining others in the same way he had been entertained. Mark stated, “Michael, to the best of my knowledge, thought that he was entertaining children the way he was entertained.”
Now here is where everything gets suspicious. Interest in Jackson is high right now, thanks in part to the success of the recent biopic, Michael. While that film has brought in nearly half a billion dollars, it notably excludes two topics, contrary to earlier promises.
There is no mention of Jackson’s own childhood trauma, nor the numerous allegations of child molestation brought against him by former companions. These claims have been a major part of the public narrative for years, including the 2005 trial where Jackson was cleared on all counts regarding accusations made by Gavin Arvizo. Recently, the children of a family he was close to stepped forward with new allegations
Mark, who has kept these details private for years, expressed that he does not see the singer as an evil person. Instead, he views him as a man who was unsure of his own identity and who struggled to trust others.
He believes that the singer’s subsequent reliance on drugs and alcohol was a way to cope with an underlying, unresolved pain. Mark pointed out that it is not unusual for those who have suffered early trauma to turn to substances to dull their internal distress.
The conversations between the two men often centered on their shared love for classic entertainers, yet the weight of Jackson’s past remained a recurring theme. Even though Jackson had children of his own, including Prince and Paris, he never discussed them during these specific chats.
Mark maintains that he is sharing this information now only because it offers a necessary perspective on the singer’s internal struggle, emphasizing that he has never sought to profit from these private memories.
