J.Lo and Ben Affleck’s red carpet reunion sends fans into a frenzy — ‘friendly exes’ or Bennifer redux?

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez are back at it again — this time gracing a red carpet together for the premiere of Lopez’s new musical, and the rumor mill is back on that the two might just be giving it another try.

The Love Don’t Cost a Thing singer might just be one of the busiest people in showbiz. She recently got off a world tour where, among other things, she announced that she’s no longer looking to get married again. However, it goes without saying that it might be a safe assumption that Affleck could possibly be an exception to that rule.

Lopez’s new movie is Kiss of the Spiderwoman, a musical by Oscar-winning writer-director Bill Condon. Reportedly, it was still in pre-production when Lopez was still together with Affleck, and she expressed to him that from the script she read and the vision Condon had mapped out, this was the role she was destined for. In a recent interview, J-Lo shared that that was all Affleck needed to hear. Through his production company Artists Equity, which he shares with notable best friend Matt Damon, Affleck was able to find funding, and the movie was made at a reported $30 million budget.

Critics received the film warmly, and chances of an Academy Award nomination for Lopez have started for the first time since her film Hustlers. Now, that’s not to say that at the premiere she still expected Affleck to show. After all, just because Affleck’s company produced the film doesn’t mean that he would necessarily show up to the premiere — Bob Iger doesn’t walk every Disney film red carpet, and Kevin Feige admittedly doesn’t even like everything Marvel puts out.

Still, Affleck told the press present at the red carpet that he wouldn’t dream of being anywhere else. The moment where Affleck catches J-Lo’s attention has been trending online for an entire day now. CNN reports that when Lopez finally saw Affleck, she simply said, “You’re here,” suggesting that she wasn’t entirely certain he would come but wasn’t surprised either. The two then posed for a photograph together.

Affleck, however, stayed on topic when asked why he was there by the press. The former Batman said, “This is an incredible story. This is the kind of role I think that Jennifer has wanted to play her whole career, and she’s fabulous in the movie.” It’s highly probable that if the film does end up being an actual Oscar contender, the two exes will have to spend more time together.

Fans online are buzzing and joking about whether this means the two are going to give it another run. It’s hard to say whether this means anything. Ultimately, as head of a production company, Affleck did exactly what he was supposed to do by attending and bringing the press along to create buzz around the new project. He sounds like he really believes in it. Whether that’s because or in spite of J-Lo is anyone’s guess. The two declined to comment on the rumors around their reunion.

Kiss of the Spider Woman will be released in cinemas on Oct. 10.
