The pair first made headlines in late July when they were spotted having dinner together in Montreal, but sources now say their relationship has cooled off due to busy schedules and unexpected media attention.

The 40-year-old pop star and 53-year-old politician were photographed during what appeared to be an intimate dinner at Le Violon restaurant in Montreal on July 28. The outing came just weeks after Perry announced her split from Orlando Bloom, with whom she shares 4-year-old daughter Daisy. Two days later, Trudeau attended Perry’s concert in Montreal with his 16-year-old daughter Ella-Grace, where he was seen singing along to hits like “Firework.”

According to Daily Mail, Trudeau “wasn’t thrilled about the pictures getting out” from their first date. A source told the Daily Mail that “it was a first date. A first date! And these pictures came out and it became this huge thing, which is not what he seems to have wanted.” The insider noted that while Perry “didn’t seem to care nearly as much,” Trudeau was bothered by the unwanted attention their outing received.

Communication between Perry and Trudeau has reportedly stopped
