When it comes to being a private person, former NFL coach Bill Belichick was seen as the best example during his Patriots coaching career. Whether it was giving brief, guarded answers to the media, shutting down unwanted questions, or refusing to talk about his personal life, he remained tight-lipped. But when he seemed to be on the verge of slipping and answering the rather innocent query about how he met his 24-year-old girlfriend, she abruptly and hastily rushed to shut down his response.
During a recent CBS Sunday Morning interview, NFL coaching legend Belichick sat down to promote his new book, The Art of Winning: Lessons from a Life in Football. After neatly sidestepping from commenting on his reportedly strained relationship with Patriots owner Robert Kraft and whether he was fired or not, he found himself facing questions about his relationship with Jordan Hudson, a former competitive cheerleader and philosophy student from Massachusetts, who is 49 years younger than the 72-year-old coach and his “creative muse” – as described in his book.
Upon being questioned about how he dealt with the massive ridicule his relationship with Hudson brought, Belichick honestly admitted that he doesn’t pay heed to public opinion about his personal life and does what he feels is right for him. But the minute journalist, Tony Dokaupil, asked how the two met, Hudson – who was a “constant presence” in the background during the interview, of which she was not a part – swiftly cut off any possible response from Belichick with a “We are not talking about this.”
She doubled down on her strong refusal with a resolute “No” when Dokoupil looked over at her after the interruption. Apparently, though it is the only interjection by Hudson that was shown in the interview, she asserted her control over the direction of the chat and Belichick’s answers many times, as reported by NBC Sports. And she did it so many times, CBS decided to include this one interruption in the final edit of the interview.
Hudson cutting off Belichick and effectively controlling the flow of the interview has not done any favors for the couple’s already controversial relationship.
This drive to keep the details of their first meeting under wraps – though they reportedly met in 2021 on a flight from Boston to Florida and remained in touch after that – seems rather odd coming from Hudson. Unlike Belichick, she is very active on social media and has flaunted images of their fun trips (that have attracted their fair share of negativity).
Despite his efforts, Belichick’s relationship with Hudson has remained a topic of debate, and after this, the judgmental eyes trained on the couple are bound to get sharper
