Padma Lakshmi is packing her knives and leaving ‘Top Chef’ and we are not OK

It's a very sad day.

The Padma Lakshmi era of Top Chef is officially over. That’s right, the elegant and well-spoken Lakshmi, who’s hosted the popular reality cooking show for more than 17 years has finally called it quits, and people are in their feelings about it.

Lakshmi announced the news in a statement, saying she was “extremely proud to have been part of building a such successful show.” What’s she doing next? She’s making space for “Taste the Nation, my books and other creative pursuits.”

Lakshmi was one of the best TV hosts around: she was eloquent, intelligent and polished in a way that wasn’t pretentious at all even though she looks like she would be. She seems totally down to earth, and even if it’s an act she’s really good at it. What can I say I’m a fan! Here’s what some other people are saying about this sad news:

It’s too soon to be talking about this!

Seriously, the ink isn’t even dry on her exit statement.

Diva down!

This one is very true. Tom dresses like a gay tourist at the rodeo for the first time:

We will all be waiting, Jack.

I mean, look at her just hanging out with JCO.

We are all devastated Brianna.

She really did have a huge impact.

Well OK this is a little too far but their heart’s in the right place.

Alright, apparently I’m not as much a fan as I thought.

But she really is loved.

Goodbye Padma. We’ll follow you wherever you go.

Here’s her full statement:

Au revoir Padma. Best of luck in all your future endeavors.
