Sami Sheen reminds fans who her dad ’20/20′ interview soundbite

Sami Sheen is not hiding from her relationship with her father.

Sami Sheen, the daughter of actor Charlie Sheen, recently shared a clip from her father’s 2011 interview on 20/20 to explain why their relationship is so difficult. The TikTok video, which went viral, included a moment where Charlie Sheen was asked by interviewer Andrea Canning about drugs in his home.

According to the video found by TMZ, his response was, “If there are, you better find them and give them to me immediately. No, there are not. Not that I know about. If I know about ‘em, I’ll find ‘em and throw ‘em away. It’s not a big deal.” Sami used this clip to show why she hadn’t spoken to her father in a year.

This clip is an interesting choice because Charlie would not become sober for another few years. Basically, behind the scenes, he was still very much addicted. Her caption, “When people wonder why I haven’t spoken to my dad in a year but this is my dad,” made it clear how she feels about him.

Charlie Sheen’s daughter posts about relationship with father

This isn’t the first time Sami has talked openly about her complicated relationship with her father. As reported by US Magazine, Sami went into detail about how hard it was growing up with Charlie Sheen on Gia Giudice’s podcast Casual Chaos. She talked about how unreliable he was, saying he often promised to come to family events but either didn’t show up or arrived extremely late, usually while high or drunk.

“My whole childhood, I want to say like the first 13 years, my dad was very in and out of my life,” she said. “It was the worst if we had an event and he said he was going to show up, and then we wouldn’t hear from him or he would show up, like, 10 hours late. So we kind of just stopped asking him to come to stuff.”

She also added, “I literally cannot tell you one memory from my childhood of him where he’s been sober. Which is kind of sad, but whatever, it’s his choice.” She also said her mother, Denise Richards, protected her from some of the worst parts of her father’s life, like one time when she was told he was skiing, but he was actually in jail.

Because her father was so inconsistent and struggled with addiction, Sami’s mental health suffered. She said the constant fighting in the family made her feel like she was being blamed for things, which is part of why she decided to cut ties with her dad and take care of herself. “That was pretty hard,” she said, reflecting on growing up with a father with many problems. “But it was, honestly, it was all I knew. It would have been a lot harder if I went from having a perfect family, and then all of a sudden he’s a crazy drug addict, and we don’t get to see him. So it kind of helps that it’s all I know, but it still sucks.”

Sami has also been open about her feelings on her mother’s reality show, Denise Richards & Her Wild Things. At one point, she flat-out said she’d rather do anything than have lunch with her father, showing just how broken their relationship is.
