It’s been a full year since the Russian invasion of Ukraine began. Millions of Ukrainians fled the country, while some stayed behind to fight on the front lines. So far, a handful of cities were liberated from Russian forces while some are still occupied. And while it’s currently unknown when the warfare will stop, horror author, Stephen King may have found a “perfect” solution.
King posted on Twitter a suggestion on how the two European leaders could declare peace. He suggested that Volodymyr Zelensky and Vladimir Putin should host a pay-per-view fighting event to duke it out. That’s right, he suggested that a political boxing match would be the perfect solution to stop the invasion.
Despite how weird this sounds, it’s quite fitting if you think about it. Before the invasion, Putin tends to show photos of how “manly” he is. He would have photos of him with wild animals and he was also a judo champion before his titles were stripped. Meanwhile, Zelensky was an entertainer before he was president. A comedian even. He knows how to entertain an audience.
Not to mention, there were a few people on social media who argued that Zelesnky is the type of man that Putin tried to portray himself on social media before the invasion started. So hosting a pay-per-view political boxing match would not only help fund the winning country but would be the perfect opportunity for Putin to prove that all the photos and videos he’s shared in the past are not photoshopped.
This idea was met with mixed reactions. Most people have their money on Putin winning due to his history with the KGB – the Soviet Union’s main security agency. Meanwhile, Zelesnky doesn’t have any fighting experience. He’s just an actor, an entertainer. His only advantage is his age, but that’s not enough to stop someone with a black belt in judo.
It’s currently unknown how long Russia’s invasion would last. But plenty of first-world nations like America, Europe, and Australia have shown ongoing support by providing weapons and vehicles to Ukraine. Recently, US President, Joe Biden visited the country since the invasion began, and was met with support from some celebrities. While there were opportunities during the early months for peace talks, Ukraine will not stop until its country is free from invaders.
