Stephen King masterfully takes down Kevin McCarthy with well-placed truth about Donald Trump

He calls them out again and again.

Leave it to horror master Stephen King to talk back to power, especially when that power is desperate-for-attention House speaker Kevin McCarthy. McCarthy has positioned himself as some sort of conservative hero fighting for… well, it’s not really clear. It honestly feels like he just likes being on camera. Remember when he lost the vote for speaker 14 times in a row?

McCarthy’s latest tirade is all about blaming democrats, who are “addicted to spending,” whatever that means. Of course, what he’s conveniently leaving out s how much the deficit ballooned under Trump. He’s also conveniently making this a divisive political issue instead of you know, doing his job.

Right on cue, King answers McCarthy’s whiny tweet with one of his own, calling former President Donald Trump the “master” of spending. This statement is not based in fiction. The deficit rose about 40% under Trump, with the caveat that there was a lot of COVID spending going on too.

Regardless, pointing fingers (by McCarthy) and looking for photo opps is pathetic, and McCarthy is a terrible Speaker of the House, in that he seems to care a lot more about looking good than serving the country. The deadline for a default could come as soon as June 1st, and if the debt ceiling isn’t raised then the United States may not be able to pay its bills. Can we do that with student loans? It feels possible.

McCarthy and President Joe Biden are meeting Monday to try and come to a decision on the whole thing, and it’s not really clear what will happen besides the knowledge that McCarthy will stand in front of the capitol for a photo op and take full credit for it.

We’ll keep you posted.
