The collective desire to fan-cast Jenna Ortega in everything raises a few quizzical eyebrows

What do you think?

The DCU is fast expanding, with recent developments clearly signaling that co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran are in the process of putting fresh new faces to some of our favorite superheroes. Even though this is sparking a fresh wave of excitement and curiosity among fans to see which star will best fit each role, not every decision on this front is positively received. And some of them have invited backlash and criticism.

To be more specific, people aren’t ready to even consider Wednesday star Jenna Ortega as one of the DC’s leading superheroes, Wonder Woman. After Jenna Ortega’s fan page tweeted about choosing the actress for this role, pandemonium broke out on Twitter.

Some are not entirely in favor of banishing her from the DC universe for good, stating that her established persona as a gothic magical creature (as seen on Wednesday) will make her more suitable for playing Zatanna, whose tight black outfit and confident, self-assured vibes complement Wednesday Adams.

Others have pointed out her height and age as obstacles for her portraying Wonder Woman, who is known for being relatively older and taller. Here are some of the verdicts.

A few alternative choices were put forward.

It is true that Ortega has come a long way from portraying rebellious teenagers. Her performances as Ellie in Netflix thriller You, Tara Carpenter in the last two entries of slasher franchise Scream, and her breakthrough performance as the titular Wednesday Adams have earned her an enormous amount of critical acclaim and popularity. Notwithstanding, being an integral part of the fan–favorite franchise that is DC will inevitably pose challenges along the way but as a fan, there is no harm in hoping for the idea to turn into reality.
