Jackson Mahomes, brother of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, was arrested in May on several charges relating to an incident in February 2023. News regarding the allegations first broke not long after he was arrested, and it was also revealed that he’d been charged with three counts of aggravated sexual battery, and an additional count of misdemeanor battery.

Remaining out of the spotlight for a little while after the news went public, Jackson soon joined social media platforms again, to the disdain of those who already had strong feelings that he wasn’t a stellar individual. Those who follow football know that the Mahomes family gets a lot of flack, largely because of Jackson and Brittany, Patrick’s brother and wife. When it was revealed that Jackson was being accused of sexual assault, the general public only doubled down on their negative thoughts about him.

The woman at the center of the charges is named Aspen Vaughn, and in her opening up about what happened between herself and Jackson, she suffered greatly, as did her business where the assault occurred. In July, Aspens Restaurant and Lounge announced on social media that the business was closing and looking for someone to buy or lease the property.

With an arrest in May regarding allegations of a February assault, those keeping an eye on the situation expected Mahomes to have gone to court by now, and you might be wondering what came of Vaughn’s bravery in speaking out and sharing her story. Here’s a look at what’s been happening in the meantime and if Jackson has gone to trial yet.

Has Mahomes gone to trial for the sexual assault charges?

Jackson was released after posting $100,000 in bail following his May arraignment, and was set to be in court again on Aug. 29. The judge in the case came down with COVID-19, and his hearing has been rescheduled for Oct. 24 of this year.

The assault changed the life of Vaughn, who, as we shared earlier, was forced to close down her restaurant in the months following her run-in with Jackson. Vaughn reported receiving death threats, having a decrease in sales by 75%, and dealing with vandalism in the weeks after the assault. She also spoke with Fox News regarding being assaulted by Mahomes:

“He forcibly kissed me out of nowhere, and I’m telling him, pushing him off saying, ‘What are you doing?’ and then he proceeded to do it two more times, where the last time I was pushing him off, and I can see on the cameras that somebody was outside the office door, and I was yelling for them to come help, because he’s big and massive.”

Vaughn knew it was necessary to report the assault to authorities, but she spoke with The Kansas City Star regarding the fallout she experienced and said she wasn’t prepared for it. She also felt unsafe, “I feel like definitely, since it’s occurred, my safety is definitely at risk. I’m feeling attacked by people I’ve never met. Why do victims not come forward? It’s because this is how they get treated.”
