It’s been over two years since the battle to free Britney Spears from a conservatorship which was managed by her father, Jamie Spears. Since then, the two have, unsurprisingly, become estranged from one another, with Britney ceasing all contact between them. But what became of the pop star’s father, who, for the most part, seems to have disappeared from the public eye?
What we know about Jamie Spears
The father of three made his wealth thanks to his construction business as well as multiple other business ventures, however, over the years multiple tabloids have reported that Jamie has been in and out of rehab and hospital due to his drinking and other ailments. His battle with alcoholism was first detailed by his ex-wife Lynn back in 2008, although he’s been struggling with his addiction for a lot longer. The Daily Mail reported that Jamie had been involved in a 30 day rehab program over the Summer — however, according to Page Six, this has been denied by those close to the father.
Where is he now?
According to the Daily Mail, Jamie has moved back in with his youngest daughter, Jamie Lynn Spears, in their family home in Louisiana. The Zoey 102 star has said that her father has been helping to look after his granddaughter, however, the Daily Mail article also claims that his drinking has caused concern among family members.
Earlier this month, Jamie was also hospitalized due to a bacterial infection, according to Page Six. Although thankfully he is now in an outpatient facility, and reportedly on the mend. It’s likely that he’ll be staying with his youngest daughter for the foreseeable future.
Are Britney and her father on speaking terms?
Britney’s relationship with her whole family is pretty strained. She’s not on particularly good terms with Jamie Lynn Spears, nor her father, and her memoir, which released yesterday, has dropped multiple bombshells regarding the way she was treated by her family during a particularly difficult period in her life. Obviously, considering how controversial the whole situation was, it’s no wonder that Britney would not want to speak with her father, who continued the conservatorship despite her wishes to be free of it.
Earlier this year, reports were floating about (mostly from TMZ) suggesting that the “Toxic” singer was looking to reconnect with her father, however, she has since come out and denied the rumors. Britney has even gone on to say that she wants to see her father jailed for his part in the conservatorship, so it seems unlikely that the two will ever be on speaking terms again. However, the pop star has reportedly re-opened communication with her mother.
