‘You may be upset with me for posting this’: Cyrus family drama explodes after Billy Ray’s Easter post

Billy Ray Cyrus has been 'beaten down' and his ex-wife wants him to realize it.

The already chaotic life of country singer Billy Ray Cyrus has taken another shocking turn, drawing a flood of public attention and causing tension within his family. The recent news of his new relationship with actress Elizabeth Hurley comes after a bitter divorce from his wife of seven months, Firerose.

The already messy situation got even more complicated when Cyrus announced his new relationship with Hurley on Easter Sunday. The couple met while filming the 2022 movie Christmas in Paradise and went public with their romance through an Instagram post by Hurley. While neither has shared many details about their relationship, people close to Hurley say she is “smitten” and grew close while filming in Nevis.

Making things even more heated is the reaction from Cyrus’s family. As found by US Magazine, Billy Ray’s son Trace Cyrus, from his previous marriage to Tish Cyrus, shared deep concerns about his father’s well-being in a public Instagram post. He wrote directly to his father, saying, “Sadly, the man that I wanted so badly to be like is someone I barely know now. It seems like the world has worn you down, and everyone can see it except you.”

Trace continued the post saying, “You may be upset with me for posting this but I really couldn’t care less at this point. Me and the girls have been genuinely worried about you for years but you’ve pushed all of us away.”

Meanwhile, Firerose, despite the rocky end to her short marriage, seems to be focusing on her music career and her work as an advocate, per People. Sources say she is putting her energy into her art and supporting survivors of narcissistic abuse, using her platform to help others who have gone through similar struggles. Her song “RISE UP,” released in April 2024, appears to reflect her personal growth and strength during this time.

The fast-moving romance between Cyrus and Firerose started in August 2022 and led to marriage in October 2023. But the marriage fell apart quickly, ending in anger just seven months later. Cyrus filed for divorce in May 2024, saying they could not get along and accusing Firerose of “inappropriate marital conduct.” The legal fight grew intense, with both sides making serious claims against each other.

Cyrus asked for a temporary restraining order, saying Firerose had made unauthorized purchases and demanding she pay him back. Firerose then accused him of domestic abuse, which Cyrus denied. The divorce was finalized in August 2024, with Cyrus’s lawyers saying they were relieved to end what they called a “nightmare.” They also mentioned Firerose’s decision to legally change her last name from Hodges to Cyrus right before the divorce was settled, implying she may have married him just to take his famous last name.
