Mikel Janín Is Back

We’d hate to be in Janín’s shoes right now. After the sensational work he’s done in “The War of Jokes and Riddles,” it’s going to be incredibly difficult to top this. This is the sort of artwork that’ll inspire a whole new generation of artists to pick up a pencil and draw like Janín.

While Mann provided great art for Batman #27, this arc is truly Janín’s and his return should be cheered from the rafters. He has such a unique and stylized approach, yet it’s oddly familiar at the same time. This world he has created might look different from what we know, but it still feels like home to us.

Everyone could already see hints of King and Janín’s chemistry in Grayson and earlier arcs in this Batman run, but this latest arc solidifies the argument for us. Not long ago, DC saw what the synergy between Greg Capullo and Scott Snyder could bring, and they’d be best served if they kept King and Janín together for as long as possible as well.
