Zatanna Steals The Show

“Intelligence” might be about Azrael, but the true hero and star of this tale is Zatanna. When the team needed her the most, she stepped up and put her magic to good use. In fact, her shining scene is reminiscent to the Wonder Woman climax where Diana professes about the power of love before finally defeating Ares. You know, the part where you got a lump in your throat and wished the world would listen to the same message.

It’s a big Rebirth moment for Zee, which epitomizes everything this new direction of the DCU stands for. It captures the essence of heroism, optimism, and love. Basking in the beauty of this message, you can’t help but feel as if it’s so far removed from the bleak and hopeless nature of the New 52, which seems like a lifetime ago now. Not saying that we miss it, though.

More than anything, Zatanna’s role in this arc has reaffirmed that we need to see more of her in Rebirth. While a solo series might be a stretch too far for her, it would be nice to see her join up with a powerful team (no, not the Justice League of America for the love of Zod). Perhaps a Justice League Dark reunion could be on the cards in the near future? Well, we certainly hope so, because there’s no way Zee can only be a once-in-a-blue-moon character.
