It goes without saying that IDW certainly has a generous amount of popular franchises under its belt that it’s able to adapt to the comic book medium. Of those, several happen to be Hasbro properties such as Transformers and My Little Pony. Quite surprisingly, the latest to join the club is that of the classic board game, Clue.
Having already been adapted to a major motion picture and, very shortly, a stage production, this murder mystery has entertained countless people for several generations no matter what their exposure may be. So, it seems only natural that it sees a comic adaptation.
This June, writer Paul Allor (Guardians of the Galaxy, G.I. JOE) and artist Nelson Dániel (Dungeons & Dragons, The Cape) will be the latest to put their spin on the unfortunate homicide of Mr. Boddy in a five-issue miniseries set to include fresh interpretations of Miss Scarlet, Colonel Mustard, Mrs. Peacock, Professor Plum and others.
Now, if you were a fan of the film, you’re aware of the fact that three different endings were shot and, depending on which participating theater you viewed it in, your moviegoing experience wasn’t exactly the same as those who attended showings in other multiplexes. But when it was later released on home video and exhibited on television, all three were successively included, with one being branded the “true” outcome.
What’s cool about the comic is that IDW seems to be taking a page out of that playbook and, depending on which variant cover you purchase, a unique cliffhanger will be provided. But, there’s a catch: it could be a legitimate clue or a red herring. Either way, Clue has instantly become one of the most intriguing titles to launch in 2017.
