Even if you’re unfamiliar with what’s been going on, you can probably glean from the book’s title that it has something to do with horrific monstrosities. Well, you’re pretty much right because this story, concocted by writer Cullen Bunn (Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe, Uncanny X-Men) and artist Steve McNiven (Civil War), unites the likes of the Avengers, the Champions, the Guardians of the Galaxy, the X-Men and the Inhumans against a variety of kaiju-like threats, some of which will be familiar to longtime Marvel readers.

As for the clip itself, it parodies various types of videos we would have seen in the 1950s or, if you’re like me, you had to sit through these in even in the 1990s because your school’s resources weren’t as up to date as they should have been. Still, the era is rather appropriate to reference because it was the dawn of science fiction as we know it.

While you take in various images from the series that have been adapted to motion comic format, you’ll no doubt hear a tune by The Black Keys, specifically, “Just Couldn’t Tie Me Down.” And, on that note, Black Keys member Pat Carney had this to say:

“As a kid my friends and I kept searching for something that felt like we were taking part in a whole different society that actually existed and all that was sub-culture stuff I think, traditionally, comics and music, that’s how you can tap into that.”

Monsters Unleashed #1 & 2 are available now in comic shops. For more, be sure to check out our review of the second issue.
