If you were a fan of the Cameron Stewart-Brenden Fletcher-Babs Tarr era of Batgirl from the New 52 and were a bit lukewarm to her recent trips abroad, you’ll be thrilled to know that she’ll indeed be returning home to Burnside before the month concludes.

If that wasn’t enough to grab your attention, the Son of Penguin will be making his debut. Estranged from his mob boss father, it should be most interesting to see what kind of impact he’ll have on the life of Barbara Gordon. Does he share his papa’s temperament? Or his affinity for parasols? Will he possibly end up being – gasp – a love interest for our heroine? Those are but a few reasons to pick up this issue.

Speaking of which, writer Hope Larson remains on the series for the foreseeable future, but artist Rafael Albuquerque is out and Christian Wildgoose is in. The change was solicited months ago, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise if you’ve kept abreast of what’s been going on at DC. And, after checking out the preview images in the gallery above, we actually welcome the switch because Wildgoose’s style seems like a comfortable fit for this book.

For initial plot details, be sure to check out the official synopsis below:

“Son of Penguin” part one! Babs is back in Burnside! But everything’s…different—friends, school, even Burnside itself. Batgirl must determine her next steps when she realizes that the shady new tech mogul moving into her neighborhood is none other than the estranged son of the Penguin!

Batgirl #7 arrives in comic shops on Wednesday, January 25.
