Rebirth’s New Batman: 9 Possible Replacements For Bruce Wayne

Despite the dull conclusion to "The Button" in The Flash #22, the arc did leave us mulling the possibility that Bruce Wayne could be ready to hang up the cape and cowl after a conversation with his father in Batman #22. Now, don't pop a blood vessel here, because there's no chance that DC Comics will kill off its biggest cash cow for good. That's never going to happen. It's like Superman dying every couple of years; you know he'll always come back to life after some time. What we're likely to see is Bruce Wayne giving up being the Bat (temporarily), while someone else takes up the mantle.

Yes, you read the name right. The one thing that Rebirth has shown us is that nothing is as it seems. We’ve seen two Supermen merge to become the main Superman, so it’s possible that there are more tricks up the writers’ sleeves for the rest of the characters. Just because this Bruce Wayne’s time has potentially come to an end doesn’t mean that another’s has, too.

With all the different Earths and timelines, it’s probable that another Bruce is waiting for his opportunity to merge or take over the current Rebirth continuity as well. As long as it isn’t a stupid clone story, this could make sense.

That said, most fans will probably dislike this concept and find it a cheap copout if it does happen. Batman‘s always been the more grounded of the DC’s characters, so maybe it’s best to avoid getting as bizarre as it does on some of the other titles.
