A-listers upstaged at the Met Gala after a cockroach walks the red carpet

This bug ate and absolutely left no crumbs.

Out of the glitz and glamour the crowd has witnessed at this year’s Met Gala, there was a surprising guest that managed to upstage every celebrity that stepped on the red carpet.

On-brand for New York City, a cockroach managed to make its way to the red carpet. Variety captured the moment when this little insect strutted its way up the stairs and was met with cameras capturing the surprise guest. Nobody expected that the bug would make its way to the event, but here we are.

According to Variety, the name of the first photographer to capture this “very special guest” was Kevin Mazur, a celebrity snapper who captured the likes of Michael Jackson, Katy Perry, Madonna, and Beyoncé, just to name a few. If Mazur snagged a photo of you, then you’re pretty much a big deal. So the fact that this bug caught the eye of this renowned entertainment photographer means that this is no ordinary roach.

Sadly, images of the now-famous insect didn’t make their way to the official photo galleries online, but at least people with phones managed to share the captured moment and send it on social media.

Unfortunately, not everyone saw eye-to-eye with the paparazzi and the photographers. It was reported that the Met Gala cockroach was stepped on and killed before it managed to join the rest of the celebrity guests at this year’s fashion event.

To commemorate the short-lived fame of this now-deceased (and stepped-on) cockroach, fans on the internet shared tributes to the highly beloved bug. It’s such a shame that this little insect wasn’t beloved by everyone who attended.

At the end of the day, this cockroach stole the show, and the best thing about it was that this bug understood the theme of this year’s event. The 2023 Met Gala’s dress code was to commemorate the works of Karl Lagerfeld, thanks to its theme “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty”.

The German-born fashion designer may be known for his works with luxury fashion brands like Chanel and Fendi, but he’s also unapologetic and hateful towards women and minorities. The cockroach used its reputation of being “a hated creature” to channel the fashion designer’s controversial past, which could be perhaps the reason why the bug was beloved by the press upon its arrival.

Not only did this cockroach ate, it absolutely left no crumbs. Rest in peace.
