Atlanta mother was pumping gas at midnight when a man allegedly tried to grab her son. Her quick response stopped him

He allegedly also tried to take her other child in the backseat.

A mother in Atlanta, Georgia, fought off a man who allegedly tried to grab her son while she was filling her car with gas. The incident happened at a Shell gas station on July 23, at around midnight.

According to the Daily Mail, police identified the suspect as 30-year-old Jerahn Tucker. He has not been publicly named as connected to the mother or child, and their identities have not been released.

Surveillance video captured the entire incident. The footage shows Tucker approaching the woman’s car while she pumped gas, and it later shows her using the gas pump to push him back and protect her children.

Surveillance footage shows the confrontation unfold

The video shows Tucker, who was shirtless, walking around the mother’s vehicle. He then had an exchange with her that caused him to step away from the car. The incident highlights the dangers mothers can face while pumping gas, a concern echoed in other reports, such as when a mother allegedly lured kids to a sleepover in a family car

Soon after, the child inside the car opened and closed the passenger door. This appeared to draw Tucker back toward the vehicle. As he looked into the window, the mother stepped forward as if to get between him and the car. At that moment, her son ran out through the driver’s side door.

Tucker is seen moving toward the open door and chasing the child around the vehicle. The mother then grabbed the gas pump and held it up to warn him away. Police said Tucker also tried to open the back door of the car, where the woman’s other child was sitting, before he was chased off from the scene.

Tucker allegedly attempted to drive away afterward but was arrested shortly after by officers with the Marietta Police Department. Cobb County Police also assisted in the arrest. Police said that at the time of his arrest, Tucker was not wearing a shirt or shoes. Officers also said a THC vape was found in his car.

According to police, the manager of the gas station said he had kicked Tucker off the property multiple times before this incident. Such allegations carry serious consequences, as a recent Florida case shows how facial recognition errors can lead to wrongful arrests

Tucker is now facing attempted kidnapping charges, per the outlet. Marietta Police Department Officer Charles McPhilamy praised the mother’s actions while speaking to WSBTV. He said, “The actions of the mother and everyone on the scene, their ability to remain calm under pressure and push him away, get him away from the children, get a hold of us so that we can get to the area allowed us to hold this individual accountable.”

McPhilamy also addressed the motive behind the alleged attempt, saying: “The million-dollar question everyone watching is going to ask: Why did this happen? Why did this occur? And we don’t know those answers.”

According to his social media accounts, Tucker appears to be an aspiring musician who has described himself as a rapper. His current employment status has not been confirmed. The case remains under investigation by the Marietta Police Department, with assistance from Cobb County Police.
