‘I’m going to miss you’: Woman’s funeral words of grief lead to all-out, hair-pulling cat fight over coffin

What a time for your secret to be exposed!

A funeral in Veracruz, Mexico, turned into a chaotic scene when a quiet farewell erupted into a physical confrontation between two women. The event was intended to be a peaceful wake for a man, but the atmosphere shifted rapidly once it became clear that both attendees had shared a romantic connection with the deceased.

It is honestly tough to imagine a more awkward or intense environment, a funeral or a wake, for a disagreement to break out. Then again, it showcases how quickly things can escalate in an emotional situation.

The conflict started after one woman approached the coffin to offer her final words of grief: “I am going to miss you,” while standing over the casket. Her words immediately triggered an aggressive reaction from another woman present at the service.

The exchange moved from verbal tension to a full physical altercation almost instantly. Witnesses observed the two women engaging in a hair-pulling fight directly in front of the coffin. Between shoving and hitting each other, they bumped into the coffin. Not only did they dislodge the lid, but they also almost toppled it over. The scene quickly became disorganized as other attendees attempted to intervene and separate the two women.

It was more of an Irish wake than a traditional funeral

Situations like this remind you that funerals can sometimes bring hidden tensions to the surface. Here, the deceased’s personal history interfered with his own wake. While the family and friends were likely hoping for a respectful memorial, the actions of these two women completely changed the tone of the event. The disruption left the other mourners to deal with the aftermath of a fight rather than the quiet reflection and remembrance they had come for.

The news of the man’s dual relationships caught the attendees off guard. When two people realize they have been involved with the same person at a funeral, the potential for a volatile reaction is high.

Managing grief is never simple, but this specific event went far beyond the typical complications of a wake. The fact that the fight occurred right at the coffin makes it particularly jarring. It is a reminder that you never truly know the full scope of a person’s life until after they are gone. For the people gathered in Veracruz, this funeral will likely be remembered for the brawl rather than the man they were there to honor.

Then again, sometimes funerals do end up being unexpectedly entertaining. One woman couldn’t help but record her nephew’s parkour shenanigans at her father’s funeral. Another funeral ended up with a bunch of unexpected guests who brought with them a silent, rhythmic vibe shift.
