‘Uncomfortable with my appearance from the jump’: Texas teacher demands father of 5yo to hide ‘off-putting’ appearance, but he says no

And he doesn't stop there.

An overstepping Texan teacher just turned all of social media against her when she tried to enforce a school rule to push a father at the school to cover up his tattoos.

The viral story that first appeared on Reddit. A couple in their mid 30s moved from Seattle to a small town in Texas where he had inherited his grandmother’s house. The father who chose to remain anonymous could immediately tell that the way he carries himself was out of step with the town they had chosen to reside in. He has long hair and tattoos and in his reddit post, the father shared, “I’ve gotten a lot of looks and some s— from people here, which I don’t really give a f— about, but suffice it to say my appearance doesn’t fit in.”

At first, the father’s schedule wouldn’t allow him to do pick ups and drop offs at his son’s school, but soon his schedule cleared up and he was able to go to his son’s school with more frequency. And that’s when the problems at his son’s school truly started. Things took a huge detour, apparently, when the teacher started talking about the father’s tattoos, and he could immediately tell she was, according to him, “uncomfortable with my appearance from the jump.” The teacher insisted that he should have them covered up when coming to pick up and drop off his son.

But the father shared that he’s heavily tattooed and that would mean he had to have everything covered from the neck down. The father chose not to heed the request, adding, “Besides, none of my tattoos that are visible when I’m clothed to any degree can be considered offensive unless you find the very idea of tattoos offensive.” But, as is increasingly the need in regular everyday issues, the father chose to stand up for himself.

The teacher had previously informed him during their interactions that tattoos were against their school’s dress code. Undeterred, however, the father chose to take up the issue with the principal. The father had already said that regardless of whether the teacher finds his tattoos uncomfortable or not, he will keep picking up his son from school. The principal actually took his side.

The principal was reportedly not willing to outright throw the teacher under the bus, but he did clarify that the rule about tattoos only applies to teachers and students. He even assured the parent that they could feel free to transfer their son to another class if they felt their child would be targeted. Reddit applauded the resolution of the saga and claimed it as a win against Karens who don’t understand “the rest of us don’t exist to cater to their demands.”

The father, however, did not take too kindly to how he’s been treated so far in the small town in Texas. He shared that he was only in the town partly for financial reasons and planned on staying for no more than three years. But now that they don’t feel welcome, he plans on making his stay shorter. He won’t be the only Texan to run away from his hometown, and seeing this real-life example, you can’t really blame any of them.
