Included in Take-Two’s earnings report this week was an new release schedule detailing the publisher’s upcoming lineup. As usual, the updated schedule failed to include any mention of the Rockstar-developed PS3 title, Agent. Naturally, this has left many gamers wondering if the title is still in development.

During the company’s earnings call with investors yesterday Take-Two’s CEO Strauss Zelnick was asked about the fate of Agent, to which he truthfully (but not helpfully) replied, “We haven’t announced anything about that title.”

Thanks for the update, Zelnick…

Sony first announced that Rockstar Games was working on a new PS3 title way back in 2007. In 2009, the developer pulled back the curtain just a little bit, giving us – the name of the game, the beautiful logo (seen up above), and the basic story element that Agent is “a game about espionage, set in the 1970s.” Outside of that, the only other update that we have ever received about the missing game is that as of last year it was still in development.

Long development cycles and delays are nothing new for Rockstar titles. For example, Max Payne 3 was first announced in 2009 and was scheduled to release sometime that Winter. Fast forward three years, and it was finally published and shipped off to retailers.

Given that history, I’m still optimistic that Agent will be released someday. Whether or not it will be worth the wait, is the real question.
