Data uncovered by Gaming Intel strongly suggests that Apex Legends has big plans for April Fools' Day.

When a video game reaches the dizzying heights of popularity in the vein of Apex Legends, frenzied speculation and rumors tend to follow.

Respawn’s online shooter is still in its infancy, of course, but amid all the hype and excitement, the Powers That Be recently issued a statement warning fans against the supposed ‘leaks’ cluttering the interwebs. Which is to say that, unless the info dump comes directly from Respawn, said intel ought to be treated with heightened caution.

With that in mind, we advise you to treat this latest rumor as just that. Over on Gaming Intel, data has been uncovered which strongly suggests that an April Fools’ Day surprise is in the works for Apex Legends. That shouldn’t come as much of a surprise, of course – on Reddit, for instance, there have been rumblings that the game would blindside players on April 1st and introduce fall damage.

That’s certainly one possibility, but data-mining by Gaming Intel points to some else entirely.

You’ll notice that the words ‘Rodeo’ and ‘Piggyback’ appear in the code, indicating that Apex Legends‘ prank may well involve the recently leaked Rodeo vehicle in some capacity. There’s also been mention of NPCs being able to pilot the Rodeo, so we wouldn’t be too surprised if the ‘Piggyback’ action ties into that. Perhaps it has something to do with the hoverbikes?

Again, as with any and all intel for Apex Legends, it’s best treating this speculative tidbit with suspicion. There are just over two weeks to go before April Fools’ Day is upon us though, so we won’t have to wait too much longer before Respawn is ready to showcase its wares. And those cheeky pranks.
