The debut trailer for Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag leaked onto the Internet today, well ahead of its planned reveal this coming Monday. Ubisoft has been busy zapping the trailer from Youtube, however, we managed to grab a copy before all traces were wiped out of existence.

The Black Flag trailer opens with Blackbeard telling his buccaneer crew all about their new Captain — who just so happens to also be an assassin. According to the legendary pirate, the new protagonist (Edward Kenway) is a “fearsome dog, who feeds on trouble and turmoil”, and is the “most clever” of all the “gentlemen of fortune sailing the West Indies”. Apparently, he will also stab you and then calmly walk away with your woman.

Unfortunately, the trailer doesn’t contain any actual gameplay footage from Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, but is instead made up entirely of CGI. With that said, the concepts shown in the footage show a clear link between Black Flag and the navel battles in Assassin’s Creed III. If you are anything like us, that is a very positive first sign.

Previous rumors about the game stated that Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag will take place in 1715, and feature Edward Kenway (father of Assassin’s Creed III‘s Haytham Kenway) as the main protagonist. According to those reports, Edward is a known “Privateer, Assassin and occasional pirate,” who operates out of the following Caribbean islands; Jamaica, Cuba, and the Bahamas.

Today’s leaked trailer seems to back up all of those claims, and Blackbeard’s appearance indicates that the 1715 timeline is also accurate. Additionally, the end of the trailer confirms that Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag will October 29, 2013 release date for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Wii U, PC, and other “next-gen consoles”.
