Battlefield 1’s Giant’s Shadow Map And Spectator Mode Available Tomorrow For Premium Pass Holders

Battlefield 1 developer DICE has today outlined its plans for the WWI shooter throughout the month of December, including confirmation that the game's first DLC map - Giant's Shadow - will be available to play tomorrow. All Premium Pass owners will have free access to the new battleground from December 13 onward, which is based on the 1918 battle of the Selle. "With a massive crashed airship casting its shadow onto the battlefield, you can expect fierce combat on the open ground and river banks alongside the Cateau-Wassigny railway," says DICE in its description of the map, also highlighting the armored train as the location's Behemoth vehicle.

Giant’s Shadow isn’t the only new content being introduced tomorrow, however. A new Spectator Mode is also part of the patch, finally making it possible for players to spectate a live match through the eyes of an observer rather than a soldier. Various camera tools, including the ability to view the carnage directly through the eyes of a player, bird’s eye views and Free Cam features, will be accessible in any given match – a huge boon for those that like to create their own video content.

Rounding out the rest of the update is a new custom game option – Standard Issue Rifles – which, when turned on grants all classes “access to their faction’s standard issue rifle – and this rifle only.” The option will be available for all weapon types, according to DICE. One new tool of war – the Grenade Crossbow – is to be included too, which is usable only by the Support class.

For those that opted not to take the plunge and pick up Battlefield 1‘s Premium Pass on release, Giant’s Shadow (and the rest of the new content) will be available for you a week later on December 20. If you want to familiarize yourself with the new map ahead of tomorrow’s launch, see the trailer above or, if you’ve yet to try one of 2016’s biggest shooter’s, see our review here.
