Care for a game of Gwent? Well, it looks as though players will be forced to wait a little while longer before delving into CD Projekt Red’s upcoming spinoff, after the studio confirmed plans to postpone the closed beta for Gwent: The Witcher Card Game into October.

Originally on course to begin next month, the esteemed Polish developer revealed today that more time is needed before the initial testing session can begin.

“At E3 we announced that we’d launch the Closed Beta of GWENT: The Witcher Card Game in September,” said CDP. “Unfortunately, we feel we need some extra time with the game before we hand it off to you for testing.

“We know we can make a first impression only once, and want to be sure everything is ready before we blast off. Delivering a good game is more important to us than keeping a deadline. Still, that doesn’t mean we don’t realize that delays can be disappointing, and we apologize for making you wait.”

Set to arrive across PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, the studio recently expressed its desire to implement cross-platform play between the latter two platforms. That’s something Microsoft has toyed with before, when back in April Xbox boss Agostino Simonetta claimed the company was ready to support developers keen on the idea – Psyonix, for instance, claims to have set up the feature within a few hours in Rocket League – placing the ball firmly in Sony’s court.

CD Projekt Red will now host the closed beta for Gwent: The Witcher Card Game on October 25.
