DOOM Has Returned To XBLA

You may have noticed that the Xbox LIVE Arcade version of DOOM was removed from the service’s marketplace over a year ago. The reason was the same as it always is: rights issues. Technically, the game was removed due to “expiring rights,” brought on by id Software being purchased by Zenimax Media. However, the classic shooter’s new owners promised to make it available again sometime in the future. Thankfully, they’ve made good on that promise.

Today, Bethesda Softworks announced that it has restored DOOM as a purchasable XBLA title. It retails for the same price as it did before, at a cheap listing price of 400 Microsoft Points ($5).

If you’ve yet to pick-up and/or play this bullet and martian filled gaming history lesson, then this is a great chance to do so. Not only does it include the full campaign that put the first-person shooter genre on the map; there’s also co-op and online play.

We’re pleased to announce that DOOM, originally released in 1993 by id Software, will be available later today for download once again on the Xbox LIVE Marketplace worldwide.

Face off against Hell’s army as you experience the revolution of DOOM. Lay waste to hordes of demonic monsters with an arsenal of classic weapons including the infamous BFG 9000. Take the deathmatch online via LIVE and battle your friends for dominance of the leaderboards, or team-up with a friend in co-op.

DOOM is available for download for 400 Microsoft Points. DOOM is rated M for Mature by the ESRB.
