Back in 2014, Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami partnered with Bethesda Softworks for the disturbing horror adventure known as The Evil Within. Now, a little under three years later, the legend is back with the sequel, The Evil Within 2.
Picking up following the events of the original, the game reunites you with Detective Sebastian Castellanos. Squaring off with the mysterious Mobius organization once again, Sebastian will be thrust into a surreal and terrifying world. With a chance to save his daughter Lily within reach, will Detective Castellanos be able to handle another punishing dose of cerebral horror?
If the debut trailer unleashed tonight is anything to go by, The Evil Within 2 will be just as terrifying as its predecessor. In this clip alone we get a glimpse at ugly creatures, dark forests and burning buildings. All hallmarks of the horror genre. With his former franchise on the upswing now, it’ll be interesting to see what tricks Mikami brings to the table for the sequel. The veteran designer has never been a slouch in the scare department, but with Resident Evil 7 being the success it has been, I’m sure he’ll be looking to one-up it.
Like many announcements out of E3, we kind of figured this sequel was going to show up during tonight’s Bethesda showcase. A leaked job listing popped up earlier this year, and just today, a sales link for the title was accidentally posted early on Reddit. It’s unfortunate for both the developer and publisher, but these things happen – especially in this particular industry.
The Evil Within 2 is currently slated to launch on October 13th for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC. Be sure to stay tuned over the coming days as we’ll no doubt learn more about the game during E3.
