Marvel Fans Going Wild For First Trailer For Avengers Video Game

There was plenty to get excited about at last night's Square Enix E3 conference - the Final Fantasy VII Remake is looking spectacular - but it's safe to say that, at least when it comes to widespread popularity, everyone was most looking forward to Marvel's Avengers. While some of the franchise's prior superhero tie-in games haven't exactly been a home run, there are exceptions to the rule, and it looks like Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal's newest title is hoping to buck the trend.

There was plenty to get excited about at last night’s Square Enix E3 conference – the Final Fantasy VII Remake is looking spectacular – but it’s safe to say that, at least when it comes to widespread popularity, everyone was most looking forward to Marvel’s Avengers. While Square Enix didn’t present any gameplay, instead opting to show off cutscenes using in-engine footage, there was still plenty to get fans hyped. The reveal trailer introduced us to a pared-back team of heroes (Iron Man, Black Widow, Thor, Hulk, and Captain America), who’ve disbanded following a terrorist attack which led to the destruction of the Bay Area, along with countless deaths. We aren’t entirely sure how the game will handle, but Crystal Dynamics promised Marvel’s Avengers would be an ongoing experience that’s regularly updated with new stories and heroes, which will all be made available free of charge.

Along with the promise of an upcoming beta (which PlayStation 4 owners will get first dibs on), it should come as no surprise that fans all over are excited to see how the final product will fare. And below, you can find but a sampling of what they’re saying on Twitter:

Many were quick to praise the free DLC and relatively close release date, though some lamented having to wait nearly a year before the game hits store shelves. If there’s one complaint we’ve seen echoed more than a few times, it’s the noticeable lack of Hawkeye/Clint Barton, who is absent from the initial Avengers lineup.

It looks like Marvel’s Avengers will be a must-own when it drops on May 15th, 2020, then, and we’ll be sure to bring you all the latest on it as E3 2019 unfolds.
