Fortnite Will Be Removing Planes From The Game In Season 8

Epic Games has announced that they'll be removing planes from Fortnite in season 8, which is probably for the best, right?

Whether you still play Fortnite religiously or have already gotten over it, you can’t deny that Epic Games has given the rest of the industry a real lesson in keeping people engaged over time. Whether it’s the subtle gameplay tweaks, new weapons and cosmetics, changing up the map or their periodic end of season events, there’s always something exciting happening in Fortnite that keeps most people coming back for more.

And now, with season 7 about to wrap up, Epic’s begun to hint at what awaits us in season 8, taking to Reddit recently to spill the details on a number of small tweaks coming down the pipeline that will improve the player experience. A lot of these are subtle changes, but one big one is that starting next season, planes will be removed from the game.

Given that they were always a pretty controversial feature, it makes sense to vault the X-4 Stormwing going forward, even if it hasn’t even been around that long. Powerful and very quick, the planes in Fortnite often make for a frustrating experience – for those who aren’t flying them – and many people have been asking Epic to heavily nerf them or simply just remove the vehicles completely. And it seems that the company has finally listened to its fans.

“Planes will be vaulted at the start of Season 8,” the developers said while commenting on a Reddit post. “Get your airtime in now!”

Of course, just because Epic is removing the planes for the time being that doesn’t mean they’ll never return, but it’s clear that the feature needs a bit of adjusting and tweaking before players can continue taking flight. What’ll be interesting to see though is whether they’re replaced with anything, or if Epic will perhaps make the Driftboard a permanent fixture from here on out.

Whatever happens, it’s nice to see them listening to the community and with season 8 now less than a week away, we simply can’t wait to see what Fortnite has in store for us next
