Gears Of War 4 Blasts Onto Xbox One Holiday 2016; 1080p/60fps Ultimate Edition Due In September As Public Beta Goes Live

As Microsoft's successful E3 press conference drew to a close, first-party dev The Coalition - previously known as Black Tusk - had time for one more announcement, and it came as no surprise. With Halo 5: Guardians acting as the opening showcase, it was Gears of War 4, another member of the Xbox old guard wrapping things up, and it certainly didn't disappoint.

Featuring a male and female pairing, the trailer follows our dual Gears as the explore a decrepit mansion. It’s an incredibly intense snippet, with the couple’s flashlights acting as the only source of light for the majority of the sizzle reel, aside from the two moons looming above them. From there, it isn’t long before chaos strikes, with JD and the unnamed woman fending off scorpion-like enemies, who get a little too close for comfort. Judging by this clip, it seems that Gears of War 4 may feature two-player co-op in lieu of the franchise’s 4-player mode.

Sticking with Microsoft’s beloved shooter and, in accordance with those earlier leaks, Gears of Wars Ultimate Edition is real. Overhauling the Xbox 360 trilogy with 1080p visuals and a crisp 60fps, the package will land on Xbox One on August 25. Can’t wait that long? Fear not, for Microsoft has confirmed plans to host a one-week beta for Gears of War: Ultimate Edition later today, meaning you can get a taste of the locust-slaying action before it officially releases.

As for Gears of War 4, it’ll be some time yet before The Coalition’s anticipated sequel is shooting up Xbox One. Not until holiday 2016, in fact.
