INSURGENCY is gearing up for its official January 22 launch, following a successful nine-month Early Access tour of duty on Steam. The intense multiplayer experience originally began as a full conversion mod with Insurgency: Modern Infantry Combat in 2007, and has since grown into the shooter it is today. Featuring 32-person multiplayer and 6-player cooperative combat, players can expect the battlefield to grow a tiny bit chaotic.
INSURGENCYÂ aims to deliver a streamlined combat experience for fans of shooters that require a bit more intelligence than just an itchy trigger finger. Choosing to focus on squad-based combat and strategic teamwork has led to a higher level of realism, which requires gamers to hone their skills on the battlefield. Mastering the vigorous gun mechanics is crucial to remaining calm and collected as overwhelming odds swarm you, and working together with your teammates significantly increases your odds of survival.
Jeremy Blum, founder and game director of New World Interactive, provided intel on exactly how successful the game’s run in Steam’s Early Access program has been.
We’ve gained tremendous feedback from our community during early access, and in the process have grown accustomed to providing frequent updates to the game based on user experience. We have created an experience gamers can’t find with any other game. It’s a gritty representation of contemporary conflict, where every life and bullet counts. To win, the difference factor typically comes down to the team with the most communication and superior tactics, not just who has the twitchiest mouse.
New World Interactive plans to release all future updates and DLC free for anyone who purchases the gritty shooter.
