Case in point: Respawn’s fresh-faced Apex Legends is currently at 50 million players and counting. That’s an incredibly robust install base, and now that the shooter’s first balancing patch has gone live – nerfing the Wingman and the Peacekeeper – we’re beginning to catch wind of what the future may hold for Apex Legends.

Over on Twitter, for instance, eagle-eyed fans appear to have data-mined an upcoming patch to reveal two big-name additions to the Apex arsenal: flamethrowers and some sort of remote turret. It’s unclear as yet if this is actually the case, as Respawn is yet to announce anything official, but it’s still pretty exciting nonetheless. We will, of course, update you if and when the studio drops new intel.

In the meantime, see for yourself:

If these alleged leaks hold true, then there will be some very exciting additions to the Apex Legends roster over the coming weeks – just imagine how a remote turret and a frickin’ flamethrower will mix things up in the battle royale arena. And that’s not something you can say about Fukasaku-san’s cult classic.

In other news, Apex Legends is also on the verge of introducing 10 – count ’em, 10 – new characters, the details of which can be found here. There’s also a reporting system in the works so that players can help stomp out cheating before it threatens to disrupt the game.

Streaming-wise, Respawn’s success story recently dethroned Fortnite to become the most-watched Twitch game. That may well change over the coming weeks and months, but considering Apex dropped in early February, the future is still bright for Respawn’s lucrative juggernaut.
