Ahead of Gran Turismo 6‘s official announcement at the Gran Turismo 15th anniversary event in the UK later today, a press release confirming the game’s status as a PlayStation 3 holiday 2013 title has reportedly been leaked online.

The website iafrica initially posted the press release this morning but later removed most of the details after Sony informed them that they had broke an embargo. Thankfully, CVG picked up the story — along with many of the details — before they were removed. A portion of the original Gran Turismo 6 press reportedly release reads:

“GT6 for PlayStation 3 will bring new levels of authenticity to ‘the Real Driving Simulator’ as well as introducing stunning new tracks and cars and a revised user interface.”

“A new compact game engine will improve operation and increase the flexibility to expand it with downloadable content.”

Series creator Kazunori Yamauchi says: “It is amazing to think that it is 15 years since we first released Gran Turismo. Things have changed a lot since then and now Gran Turismo 6 is a further evolution of my dream. We’re pleased to deliver GT6 to PlayStation 3 as we have a very loyal community on that platform.”

According to the unconfirmed press release, Gran Turismo 6 will feature all the cars from GT 5, along with new “historic, road and race vehicles” — bringing the total amount of cars in the game up to 1,200.  Additionally, the game will have “thousands” of custom wheels and “aerodynamic parts” available at launch.

The press release also noted that GT 6 will include seven new tracks all of the locations from GT 5, bringing the total up to 33 locations and 71 different layouts. One of those new locations will be the UK’s Silverstone Circuit, which just happens to be where today’s Gran Turismo 15th anniversary event is taking place.

Since the press release has not yet been officially announced, we can not confirm any of this information about Gran Turismo 6 ourselves. Consider this to be a rumor, and we will update this post once the details are officially announced.

[Update] As expected, Sony has officially announced that Gran Turismo 6 will launch for the PlayStation 3 during the Holiday 2013 season. The debut trailer and screenshots have been added at the bottom of this post. The full press release announcing GT 6 is located on the next page.
